The Chromebooks that are unable to print or change printers, because the printing dialog goes away, are experiencing a bug related to the default "Save as PDF" printer and Google Docs (as other pages will be printable.) Chromebook users who have already changed their printer will not be experiencing the issue.

These steps should remedy the situation: First, head to another site; the new tab page would be fine. Then hit print; this time the printing dialog will persist. Then change the selected printer to a real printer; this selection will be retained even if you hit cancel. Finally, head back into a Google Doc and verify that the print dialog is staying open.
